Life Imprisonment for Accused in Umargam Youth Murder Case
The Vapi Sessions Court has sentenced an accused to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of a young man in Umargam taluka. The case, which dates back to 2022, involved a neighbor forcibly entering a home and fatally attacking a youth while he was having dinner.
Case Background
The incident took place on February 5, 2022, in the Jamburi Chhipawad Faliya area of Umargam. The accused, identified as Vipul Naran Halpati (35), a resident of Jamburi, held a grudge over a previous dispute outside the house. He illegally entered the residence of Anjuben Warli while her son, Kalpesh Warli, was sitting down for a meal. Vipul attacked Kalpesh from behind with a heavy wooden log, striking him on the head. Kalpesh died on the spot due to the severity of the injuries. The victim’s sister, Kavita Warli, was also injured while trying to save her brother.
Court Verdict and Sentencing
The Second Additional Sessions Judge of the Vapi Sessions Court, H.N. Vakil, presided over the trial. After hearing the arguments presented by Public Prosecutor Anil Tripathi and reviewing the evidence, the court found Vipul Halpati guilty of the crimes.
The court awarded the following sentences:
- Under Section 302 (Murder): Life imprisonment and a fine of 10,000 rupees.
- Under Section 449 (House-trespass in order to commit offense): 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of 2,000 rupees.
- Under Section 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons): 1 year of imprisonment and a fine of 1,000 rupees.
Additionally, the court has referred the case to the District Legal Services Authority to ensure that compensation is provided to the dependents of the deceased victim.
